Marta Reig Torres
Contemporary choreographer rooted in classical ballet.
Marta is born in Valencia, Spain and currently resides in The Netherlands.
By merging her classical background with improvisation and a various contemporary techniques, Marta has developed a personal signature and versatile approach to movement that communicates dance from various perspectives and resonates deeply with skilled technical dancers.
Her choreography created for The Dutch National Ballet Junior company has been broadcast on National Dutch TV for the 25 anniversary of the Dutch Dance Days Festival 2022. Additionally, her work has been produced by Korzo Productions and co-produced by Dansateliers, Danswerkplaats Amsterdam, Cadance Festival, De Doelen Rotterdam, Codarts, and Meekers.
Marta's choreographies have been selected several times at the Dutch Dance Days Festival (Nederlandse Dans Dagen) as some of the most outstanding pieces of the season in The Netherlands. As well were also selected for the “Serie Nieuwe Theatermakers,” “Dansstorm,” and “Dansclick,” with extended tours throughout the country. Her work has gained international recognition, performing in various venues in France and England, as well as festivals such as Madrid en Danza, Dansa Valencia, and Red de Teatros Alternativos in Spain, and Palcoscenico-Danza in Turin, Italy.
She co-created Cloud & Danslab in The Hague, a self-organized hub for independent artists in dance, performance, and related arts.
Marta crafts interdisciplinary dance installation performances, location-specific projects collaborating with visual artists, poets, vocal artists, filmmakers, and musicians in venues such as the Kunsthal Museum in Rotterdam and Centre del Carmen de Valencia.
With many years of experience as a teacher, choreographer and artistic coach at Codarts in Rotterdam and ArtEZ in Arnhem, Marta is dedicated to help emerging talent to make the bridge to the professional world. She teaches also at companies such as Scapino Ballet, Conny Janssen Danst and internationaly at various conservatories and universities.
She holds a Master of Arts in Choreography from Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam and Fontys University of Fine Arts in Tilburg.
Marta began her career as a ballet dancer with The Dutch National Ballet at the age of seventeen where she danced for 10 years. In this company she has danced most of the romantic repertoire as well as neoclassical, modern and contemporary choreographies by influential choreographers such as Marius Petipa, Michel Fokine, Bronislava Nijinska, Massine, Frederic Ashton, Martha Graham, George Balanchine, Harald Lander, Peter Wright, Rudi Van Dantzig, Maguy Marin, Eduard Locke, Glen Tetley, Ted Brandsen, Christopher d’Amboise, Toer van Schayk, Redha Benteifour, Wayne Eagling, Jan Fabre, Hans van Manen and William Forsythe.
She became a contemporary dancer and joined the Gulbenkian Ballet in Lisbon, Portugal, performing works of Meryl Tankard, Bruno Listopad, Olga Roriz and Rodrigo Pederneiras. Returning to The Netherlands, she danced as a freelancer with Leine & Roebana, Conny Janssen Danst, and Nicole Beutler Projects. Her choreographic journey began in 2002, driven by a quest for a more personal expressive form of artistry.
